I'm back.. well i never left. i haven't thought about LJ in a long time. damn facebook. i don't know that anyone will be reading this but i'm still updating.

here i am in chicago. its pretty rad. one week down, only 7 more to go. its crazy. my time here is going to pass so quickly. our group is maintaining a blog. Ha! no seriously. check it out here: http://foresightdesign.org/usds/blog/

looking forward to playing guitar all summer and eating delicious vegan food. actually that's what i look forward to every summer, but i've actually gotten off to a good start and played guitar 7 out of 10 days i've been here. thrash.

So? i haven't posted in awhile. whatev. i've been busy with school and work keeping me out of the house for like 10 to 14 hours a day... but my hard work paid off! i totally made honors last semester with my 88% average. i'm a star.

its pretty crazy being in 8 classes, especially at midterm when they all have a project and/or exam a week for 2 weeks. but i manage. i'm going to do some drafting today and hopefully hit up ikea for some decorative accessories for jay and I's newly painted bedroom.

other things i'm excited about.. i'm going to New York in May with Zoe. its gonna be super fun. her mum and sister will be coming as well and we are renting an apartment for the duration of our stay. i've already started planning. One of the past issues of Herbivore was a travel issue and they had a vegan walking tour of New York. it takes you around to various restaurants and boutiques. wicked. I also started work on a google map with other vegan restaurants and of course Moo Shoes. oh man. i started putting money aside from my paycheques every 2 weeks... hopefully it will enable me to buy some gorgeous vegan shoes. my heart is all aflutter just thinking about it.

anyone have any other recommendations?

Yestereday, when my friend and I were supposed to be working on our project, we got a little distracted.

the tattoo artist is Nick Baxter. looking through his gallery, he has done many famous furniture designs... all chairs, and mostly by the Eames'. Also... Barcelona chair!! i really love this chair.

I miss victoria busses. mainly i miss it being normal to say thank you when you get off the bus. i've decided i'm going to start getting off the bus here from the front door so that people don't look at me like i'm nuts when i thank the driver. Also, when you get off the bus from the front, they tend to make sure that the door doesn't open onto a giant snowbank.

whilst alphabetizing the cds, i discovered that the most common letter of CDs in the Hume-walls collection is S. Second place is M and third is B. I also discovered that jay owns MC Hammer "lets get it started". jam packed with hits you've never heard like "Intro: turn this mutha out" and "you're being served".

Jay is home! he arrived a couple hours ago and is now sleeping cuz he apparently got no sleep on the red-eye flight from Vancouver. He said something about a fat lady taking up all the room on the armrest with her jacket.

Also my heat is restored. oh yeah, i forgot to mention that my power went out on wednesday and when it came back on i was without heat. the house reached a low of 6 and a high of 9 wednesday, thursday and friday. I had to miss working friday 11am to 8pm because i had to sit and wait for the furnace repair guy to come. he finally showed at 8:45pm. The cats and I spent the day sititng on the floor in the bathroom under blankets with about 20 candles lit for warmth. good times.

OMG. i found out a little while ago (thanks Robyn!) that Bruce Springsteen has added more dates to his tour and is now playing in Montreal in March! yay! i'm soooooo stoked. i hope he plays a similar set list to the one he did in boston...

Every set list it seems he plays born to run and dancing in the dark (short hand... BTR and Dancin - so cute!), but on this set list he also plays working on the highway! i love that song! i'm listening to it right now!

What an amazing day! Jay (in spirit) and I closed the deal on the house. I met up with my realtor to do the final walk through before signing, then went to the notary's office to go over the mortgage, taxes, property, etc. then the vendors came and we went through the deed of sale. I tried not to panic in the meeting while the notary was throwing all this legal jargon at me, and when I signed the many (MANY) documents to make it official.

After the meeting, Penny and Myles (the previous owners) told me they needed a few more minutes to finish getting some stuff out (basically cleaning supplies and some glasses in the basement).   It wasn't a big deal, i knew it wouldn't take them long since i had seen all that was left before when i was doing the walk through. So, I went to pick up Robyn and Leah to come with me when I unlocked the house for the first time. We waited until 7pm then decided to drive to the house to see if they had left yet. No such luck. So we did some super slow driving around the neighborhood and occasionally just parked on the side of the street waiting for them to leave. we were basically creepy stalkers. it was awesome. plus we were listening to classic rock.

They finally left and I opened the door. yay! oh wait, the alarm... i found the page that Penny had written down the code and quickly punched it in. umm, no luck. then, oh shit, the alarm goes off and is super loud. I called Penny and told her what code i entered and apparently she wrote down the wrong code. ha! what an entrance.

Robyn, Leah and I energetically ran around the house, snapping pictures and imagining all the stuff I would do with the place. not to mention the sweet parties that would be had

Speaking of parties... I forgot to mention that Jay and I are only the 3rd owners! the first owners were there from 1944 to 1996, then the people we bought it from were there from 1996 until today! Word on the street is that this was the house where everyone in the neighborhood would party in the 50s and 60s!

Jay is staying another week. Booooooooourns. we miss him terribly. frankfurter told me today that i don't pull his tail right.

BUT before he agreed to do this, he negotiated for the project management to pay for us to hire movers. yay no physical labor for us! just me lounging in a chair and directing the movers as they unload the truck.

so, moral of the story is... good things come to those who wait. and yay free movers!

Can anyone offer a reasonable explanation as to why "the pork king" and "king of pork" are written repeatedly, in faint blue letters, on the wall next to my shower?

Take a look for yourself. (examine the mid left-hand side)

I've gotta say... kinda creepy. Also, totally not vegan. This wall is going to get a good scrubbin' with my magic eraser after I'm done posting this.

Something rather amusing happened to me today. it pretty much made my week. maybe made my month. I wanted to post a quick note about it, but now i realized that it would make absolutely no sense to anyone else without some background info.

so, i am in this Combatives class through Dawson. Its pretty lame (for many reasons that i won't get into). However, the instructor (Sensei) has been simultaneously a terror and a delight. He is this old ex-army guy that has these amazing one liners. i honestly thought I had posted some of them, but i guess not. Here are a few:

"The goal of physical education is not to have fun. Fun is only a by-product of the activity."

"You gotta watch out for the Russians. They're assassins. They'll kill you as soon as you turn your back."

"You think you're stressed with school? Well let me tell you, there are only 2 real stressful events: Someone is about to kill you or you are about to kill someone else."

So, he sounds like a pretty crazy dude, right? oh! also, if someone asks him a question that he thinks is stupid, he just covers his ears and tells them to go think about their questions before they ask them.

Okay, now on to the real story. Today we were working our arms with rubber bands. The group of girls next to me called the Sensei over to ask which muscle group I was working on (cuz i had no idea). Sensei points to my arms and says "Clearly the deltoids. See this girl right here, see that??! Super scary strong".

me? yeah, that's right. i'm tough. My crazy drill sergeant Sensei called me SUPER SCARY STRONG.

It's a tie!
	You should listen to Classical Music. You are sophisticated, intellectual, and complex--not to mention a bit snobby sometimes. Not everyone understands you, but hey, you know you're better than them.
	You should listen to Gangsta Rap. You have a gruff, tough outer shell, and could use a little more sensitivity on occasion. But you must be doing something right, because you are cool, trendy, and a hit with your fans!

Jay and I have our flight all booked for xmas. we fly into Vancouver to visit the family in Abbotsford. Then we head over to Victoria probably sometime on Dec 28th and fly back to montreal on Jan 1. Anyone got a couch we can crash on?

Say hello to the newest staff member at Pier 1. Robyn and I are going to have so much fun working together! i start tomorrow. i called and found that out today. (yeah, the manager neglected to call me to tell me i was hired and that i start tomorrow). i celebrated by buying 2 pairs of shoes. BUT in fairness to me, they were on super sale and they are unbelievably cute.

anyways, this job is quite strategic. i mean i totally get a 20% discount. this will totally come in very handy when i'm furnishing and accessorizing my new house!

in conclusion, yay me.

also i got 96% on my art history exam, which is good in itself, but all the more impressive when you consider the fact that over 2/3 of the class FAILED. this is totally reason #2 for buying new shoes.

again, yay me.
